COMPLETED RESEARCH PROGRAMMING MODEL FOR SEMICONDUCTOR FACILITY DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION: A FRAMEWORK FOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT ABSTRACT The technology industry is a rapidly evolving and demanding market that drives the semiconductor manufacturing facility design and construction. The flexibility and schedule requirements make them unique from other construction projects. This, in relationship to the trend of the industry to continue to build facilities in Asia and in other parts of the world, requires a systematic approach to the design and construction of the wafer fab. With the recent awakening in the green architecture and energy conservation sector of the industry, the Internet has become the most energy efficient way of global communication. This thesis is the first part of an ongoing research on program development in alliance with the design and construction industry. The research involves the development of a framework needed for a web-based tool to improve the program development phase of a semiconductor manufacturing facility design project. The framework developed must support the tool to be comprehensive yet simple to use by a varied group of participants. It also needed to reflect best industry practices and exhibit flexibility to accommodate future changes based on the trends of the industries involved. The framework uses the guidelines of past and current programming practices and the support of the Internet technology to assure a user-friendly environment for the present and future programming challenges and to be an educational tool for the emerging global technology community. |
