ABSTRACT

Production equipment installation is one of the most time consuming and critical processes of semiconductor manufacturing facility construction. As the semiconductor industry is migrating from 200mm to 300mm, it further complicates the equipment installation and hook up process. Since large amounts of dollars are involved, fabrication facility owners want to begin manufacturing as soon as possible to meet the market window. Reduction in the time to market due to decreased equipment installation time could mean a huge return on investment.

This research reviewed a new pre-facilitization technique and determined its potential impact on cost and schedule for installation of production equipment in a semiconductor facility in the U.S. It also evaluated cost and schedule of present equipment installations and the pre-facilitization technique as a means to minimize cost and schedule of equipment installation and hookup. Finally a cost chart of current equipment installation was developed and a time line schedule of installation presented.
